Wazimart is here
The saying is in Kiswahili and it goes: a fundi mzuri ni yule wa kinyozi’ meaning ‘The only good artisan is your hairdresser.’
When someone says this, they most often mean that you should not trust your electrician, plumber, foreman or even contractor! Let’s not even talk about your carpenter or welder. There is so much to be suspicious about their work from material, to craftsmanship to billing to timing of the project to professionalism to ‘not giving you want you want’.
However, when you talk to any fundi or contractor, their side of the story is equally compelling… they have to deal with clients who want to pay less for higher quality materials and designs or craftsmanship, most clients have been accused of not being cognizant of their contractor’s time and therefore, only want to pay for materials sans labour. Some admit that they overcharge because the clients will want a discount and this is what they end up getting.
It’s a never ending cycle of blame and mistrust.
And it needs to come to a stop. Luckily, we have digital solutions to help solve age-old problems as this.
Wazimart is a digital market that connect buyers and sellers for all things construction. Digital marketing in and of itself is not a new concept. It’s all over the place, but what matters at the end of the day is if the mission is achieved and how it is achieved.
At Wazimart, we have created a platform for providers to engage their customers in a single channel – opening up dialogue without having to defend their position, pricing or work. This is the crunch of the matter for many building and construction related-works. When you are under-paid and therefore makes up for that by cutting corners or when someone is not good enough and spoils the name for the others.
The platform design has been created to give providers the space to showcase their products and services – which in turn gives customers the wide varieties and options available to them. We take if further by allowing avenues for providers to make professional cases or recommendations about their work and for buyers to also give their reviews. This facilitation creates the sort of transparency and ‘business’ atmosphere as well as security and assurance that has been brought by other sectors that have applied digital tools to solve business problems. When things are in black and white, when the information is out there and when that information is available from different sources, it creates a sort of openness and in most cases a safeguard for both buyers and the sellers.
We have seen it happen in many sectors – think of Uber and Taxify or Little cabs when it comes to transport. It has happened in the banking sector and opened the market as well for many players in retail with all these e-commerce platforms both locally and international.
And that is the vision for Wazimart, we want to make the market open and help safeguard the business of the suppliers and service providers on one hand while giving the buyer the options and transparency they need to make their decisions and the platform to review these goods and services.
Our journey is long, but it’s begun. For suppliers and service providers, we welcome you to list your products and services so that customers can view them and make an order. As for buyers, we welcome them to view, compare and select what works best for them.
Building takes time and modifications, but building trust takes commitment to engage. That is why we have open forums for everyone to participate; professionals can make recommendations as they see fit while buyers can share their experiences about anything including reviewing services or products ordered from a Wazimart referral.
Now you see why people claim that the only artisan you can trust is your hairdresser! They are dealing in person, they are engaging from A to Z and results are instant.
